I try to keep it a step above looking like I’m sitting at home on a Sunday. What do you wear to the airport? I try to keep it chic but comfortable, so I might wear an Alexander Wang sweatsuit with a t-shirt underneath and throw on a leather jacket and some tennis shoes. But I’d probably say my phone so I could contact my family and friends because I don’t even have a house phone anymore. What technology can’t you live without? Well, I think I could live without all of it, to be honest. Then for the last almost 20 years, I’ve been part of a support group where someone is mentoring you and you’re mentoring someone who’s newer in the group than you are. And I’ve always relied heavily on my relationship to my mom and the women in my family and friends. I asked her questions but more than anything, it was looking at someone and seeing her as a guide or inspiration. There were girls that I looked up to, specifically Christy Turlington. My first agent, Didier Fernandez, was definitely a mentor. I have to keep a calendar because if I don’t I’ll be scatterbrained.ĭid you ever have a mentor or mentee? I’ve had both. I make time almost every day for that in the morning, then everything else is after. How do you manage your time? I make wellness and exercise a priority. Your best financial investment? I would say real estate. I think to me that’s really what it’s about, investment pieces are like heirloom pieces. I was like, you know what, it’s kind of seminal, you know? It was a little tight, but I got it back on.

Wedding that he gave me from his first collection.

I have vintage pieces from the ’70s and the ’90s that I still keep. What’s your best fashion investment? I’m super passionate about sustainability and how we treat and think about our clothes, so things that are not disposable to me are the best investments. We all managed to get to work and fly around to places on time! But the flip side is social media has democratized, and photographers, models, designers and hair and makeup people, they’ve gotten their foot in the door. I liked when you’d call someone and the line was busy, or when you’d send letters. I have a bit of a romanticism with the past. I think it’s questionable when we’re placing a lot of our own personal value and perhaps putting people on a pedestal when they haven’t necessarily done the work to get there. I still don’t know if the numbers translate and it creates a lot of trolls, bullying and bad attitudes. What do you wish never changed about the modeling industry? I’d say it’s a like-dislike relationship of social media and how seriously the industry takes it.
